Your Voice for Ward 1
About Hadleigh McAlister
Born and raised in London, I am proud East Ender, who has had the honour to serve as the Ward 1 Councillor since 2022. I live in Ward 1 along with my wonderful wife Sam, our temperamental terrier Charlie and our daughter Maeve, who was born in Dec 2025. As a family we love exploring all that Ward 1 has to offer. From our beautiful parks, to the fun filled entertainment venues, to our fabulous food spots. There is a lot to see and do in Ward 1. It was what drew us to live here and why we intend to stay and raise our family here.
That said, when I decided to run for council in 2022 I saw room for improvement. There were things that past councils had ignored in our area that I felt needed to be addressed. Over the past four years I have been a strong advocate for Ward 1 and our city. What drove me then, and continues to this day, is my earnest desire to make difference and improve my ward. Through my efforts we have seen improvements in the ward, which include:
- Advocating for keeping open and improving our two outdoor community pools at Silverwoods and Glen Cairn. Both have been upgraded and now have heat, which has led to the best usage of the pools in decades. I have also provided free community swim days at both locations to ensure that everyone can enjoy the pools.
- Fought to keep the Silverwoods arena and have it redeveloped it into a community centre. The work has begun and will be complete in 2028.
- City led demolitions of the derelict old buffet and KFC on Hamilton Rd.
- River Rd rehabilitation.
- Red light camera at Hamilton/Highbury Ave.
- Inclusion of Hamilton Rd in the Master Mobility Plan.
- Increased clean ups of Highbury Ave.
- Pushed for the city to purchase the former Fairmont PS for affordable housing.
- Advanced green lights for Trafalgar/Highbury and Adelaide/Hamilton. With Pond Mills/Commissioners and Deveron/Commissioners slated for summer 2026.
- Supported community festivals at Silverwoods, Vauxhall, and St. Julien parks.
Further to efforts at the ward level, I have also fought for Londoners:
I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together so far but there is still work to be done and that is why I am seeking your support for re-election. I understand the challenges our city and our ward are facing. From aging infrastructure, to rising housing costs, to public safety and neighbourhood livability, these are issues I know well and want to continue to work to solve them for the betterment of my community.
I am running for re-election because Ward 1 deserves a representative who shows up, listens, and gets things done. Not rhetoric — results.
